This work continues the theme of women through humor. “Värikylpy” (Color Bath) refers to an artistic workshop designed for babies and their families, but in this work, I approach the subject from the perspective of an adult woman. I use my own selfie photograph in the work, in which one can observe a slight seriousness and perhaps also fatigue. The background is simplified with bathroom tiles, which creates a connection to the meaning of the word “bath.”
The pink fabric edges and colorful paint splatters provide a counterbalance to the facial expression and add lightness to the work. When painting, I look at myself in the mirror and let my imagination soar. In such a moment, it’s easy to imagine oneself, for example, as royalty – especially when I have a funny plastic shower cap on my head, which is like a “beautiful crown.”
As an artist, I often find myself literally in a “color bath” after a painting session, as paint remains on both clothes and skin. This work is therefore a playful combination of humor, everyday realism, and the power of imagination.
