Carpenters at the accordion factory
In 2014, I created three oil paintings for the restaurant, which tell the story of the accordion factory and the life of the carpenters. Two of them are traditional oil paintings (110 x130 cm and 120 x140 cm) and the third is a large mural measuring 180 x 300 cm. In these works, I have depicted everyday life in the factory based on old photographs, respecting the cultural history of Jyväskylä.
The works were created by the restaurant owners and clients with the desire to bring the history of old Jyväskylä to life and highlight the importance of the accordion factory in the development of the city. These works are still on display at Restaurant Harmoon, and they bring a touch of the past to this well-known restaurant.
Restaurant Harmooni is located in the center of Jyväskylä, opposite the train station, in a historic accordion factory building. The building, which represents the national romantic Art Nouveau style, was completed in 1910 and was designed by architect Yrjö Blomstedt. The building originally served as Oskari Merikanto's accordion factory.
